VKIDS AT HOME SESSION - WISE AND FOOLISH BUILDERS
This session is based on Matthew 7:24-27 & Luke 6:47-49

Jesus told a story about two men who built their houses in two different places.
STARTING ACTIVITY:
Who likes to go to the beach?
Think about when you last went to the beach. Did you build a sandcastle? Was it easy to build? If you built it near the sea what happened when the sea came too close? Did the sea wash your sandcastle away? Do you think your sandcastle would stay there forever?
Our Bible story today is from Matthew, find it in your Bibles so you can follow along. Jesus was talking with a big crowd of people on a hillside about God’s Kingdom. He was using stories to help the people understand God’s Kingom better.

BIBLE STORY:
Jesus told this story about two men who built their houses in different places. Let's watch the video to see what happened.
Use the Bible Search to recap the story OR get your children to retell the story in their own words.

Questions:
Where did the foolish man build his house? (Sand)
Where did the wise man build his house? (Rock)
What happened to the two houses when the storm came? (foolish – fell down / wise – stood firm)
Which man chose the right place to build his house? (wise man)
Which house was easier to build? (foolish man)
Read Matthew 7:24 - Who did Jesus say is like the wise man? (everyone who hears His words and does them)

Is it always easy to make the right choice? Why? Why not?
Sometimes making the right choice is hard but we must remember to try to do the right thing.
When we make good choices and obey God we are being like the wise man.
RESPONSE:
What kind of people do we want to be? Why?
How can we keep trying to be that person?
Following Jesus means doing what He teachers us. In Jesus’ story about the wise and foolish builder, Jesus teaches us to do what’s right. The most important, right thing we can do is to follow Jesus.
Bible and Me activity – decide who is obeying Jesus by making a good choice.
Notes for older children:
How do we know what the good/right choices are? (read our Bible, learn more about Jesus so we can become more like him, pray that God would help us through the Holy Spirit, talk to other wiser Christians)
What does the Bible say about not obeying God’s words? (we are foolish)
MEMORY VERSE:
Our memory verse for the next few weeks is;
‘Everyone who hears my words and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. Everyone who hears my words and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.’ Matthew 7:24-25.
